Dyson, the British technology company, recently moved its headquarters to Singapore. Instead of moving it to a skyscraper, it's built in an old building called the St James Power Station.
St. James Power Station itself was Singapore's first power generating station, built in early 1927. Located on HarbourFront, Singapore, the building features British architectural style with red brick accents and chimneys. St. James Power Station was once the heart of Singapore's energy system, supplying electricity to all corners of the country. However, after nearly 50 years of operation, St. James Power Station was finally decommissioned in 1976. The building was then preserved and converted into a national monument.
In 2019, Dyson acquired the St James Power Station and began a revitalization process, preserving its original architecture. This process involved restoring the building's original elements, such as the red bricks and chimneys.
“Every aspect of the design of our office, from the meeting rooms to the staircases, has been carefully considered to ensure the original characteristics of the building are maintained,” said Anna Xu, as Global Estates Director from Dyson.

The office's interior design reflects the company's philosophy of prioritizing functionality and aesthetics, blending modern and traditional elements. Designed to be a sustainable building, the office was constructed using a variety of environmentally friendly materials and technologies. The headquarters' construction has even met International WELL Building Gold and Green Mark Platinum standards.
Upon entering this office, workers are presented with a variety of work areas, from desks and collaborative spaces to lounge areas that accommodate a variety of work styles and needs. and cleaner open space This is implemented to support Dyson employees to collaborate and innovate with each other.
"We wanted to create a space that inspires and adapts to the evolving needs of our employees. Just as we are committed to building functional, user-centric machines," added Anna Xu.

The workspace in Dyson's office makes extensive use of large windows and skylight to maximize sunlight and create a comfortable work environment. Furthermore, the office utilizes trees to promote air circulation in the workspace. These trees are strategically placed to provide semi-open spaces and help improve employee health.

One of the office's must-see features is the helical staircase, which, when viewed from above, resembles Dyson's cyclone technology. Besides complementing the interior, the staircase was also designed to minimize its impact on the building's structure.

The interior design of Dyson's new office is a perfect blend of history, modernity, and sustainability. The office also symbolizes Dyson's commitment to Singapore and reflects the company's innovative and people-focused culture.
