Amidst the dynamic development of the design industry, local Indonesian brand Polkaa emerges with a vision to create household and lifestyle products that combine aesthetics, function, and sustainability. Since its founding in 2016, Polkaa has consistently innovated by collaborating with local artisans to produce unique and meaningful works.
This year, Polkaa, through the PLAY by Polkaa label, showcased the richness of Indonesian crafts on the international stage through its participation in Indonesia Pavilion at FIND Design Fair Asia 2025 on September 11-13, 2025.
Polkaa's journey began with a simple yet innovative product: a knitted bowl. This functional and decorative bowl is made from naturally dyed cotton using the Japanese shibori technique, which is then hand-knitted into a complete product.
Over time, their material exploration expanded to other eco-friendly materials, particularly bamboo, which they combined with handwoven textiles to create home decor products that reflect both cultural heritage and contemporary design. More recently, Polkaa has also branched out into fashion with a collection of bags made from vegetable-tanned leather (vegetable tanned leather), demonstrating their consistency in the values of sustainability and artisanal quality.
Product Spotlight: “Little Star”
One of the superior products that will be introduced at the FIND exhibition is "Little Star" or Little Star. This product is actually a woven garden bronai craft made by artisan Ibu Maspuati from Temuyuk Village, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan.
Made from pandan thorns (Pandanus Tectorius), the uniqueness of this weave lies in the intricate details of its pattern. On top of the basic woven structure, Ms. Maspuati meticulously inserts detailed motifs that form a star-like pattern that appears on the surface.Little Star” is not only a functional product, but also a work of art that tells the story of the craftsmanship and dedication of a local craftsman.
PLAY by Polkaa's participation in FIND Design Fair Asia 2025 marks a significant milestone. Each product they create is a story of a blend of tradition, innovation, and compassion.
