DUMA® Karya Awards 2026 launches Indonesia’s first WPC competition, inviting architects and designers to explore creativity through sustainable design.
Amid a constantly evolving design landscape, material choices are no longer simply about aesthetics and function, but also about how a work can be created with greater responsibility. This idea became the starting point for DUMA® and Anakata Series to introduce DUMA® Karya Awards 2026. The competition marks a new step for DUMA®, bringing material, creativity, and sustainability together while becoming the first competition of its kind organized by an Indonesian local Wood Plastic Composite (WPC) brand.
Through the awards, DUMA® aims to recognize the work of architects and interior designers while creating space for new ideas to emerge. More than just a competition, DUMA® Karya Awards 2026 seeks to encourage conversations around the future of design and the role locally made materials can play in shaping it.
The launch of DUMA® Karya Awards 2026 took place at Aruma Resto, Jakarta, and was officially opened by Brian Tanudjaja, Marketing Director of PT Sumber Djaja Perkasa. The event was attended by members of the media as well as invited guests from the architecture and design community.
The event began with a press conference introducing the competition in greater detail, from its categories to the submission process. It was followed by a dinner and gathering with architecture and interior design practitioners. The more informal setting also provided an opportunity for professionals across the industry to connect and open up new possibilities for collaboration.
During the press conference, Brian Tanudjaja highlighted how closely the development of the materials industry is connected to the progress of the design world. As the quality of design continues to grow, he believes the demand for better and more responsible materials will grow alongside it.
As a local manufacturer, we believe that the building materials industry and the design world are part of the same ecosystem. As the standards of Indonesian design rise, so will the demand for better and more responsible materials. Through this event, we want to contribute to growing that ecosystem by bringing design practitioners together, creating opportunities for young talent, and showing that world-class work can emerge from locally made materials.
This idea is reflected in two competition categories designed to accommodate participants at different stages of their professional journeys.
The first category, Finished Project, is open to architects with at least five years of professional experience. Participants can submit completed projects that incorporate DUMA® materials, giving established practitioners an opportunity to showcase how the material can be applied in real-world projects.
Meanwhile, the DUMA® Design Challenge is open to architects with 0–10 years of professional experience who have yet to complete a built project using DUMA® materials. The category provides an opportunity for emerging talents to develop their ideas and explore new design possibilities through DUMA® materials.
With these two categories, DUMA® Karya Awards 2026 looks beyond the final outcome of a project, while also making room for experimentation and fresh ideas. In doing so, the competition creates a meeting point between the experience of established practitioners and the perspectives of a new generation of designers.
The collaboration between DUMA® and Anakata Series is also an important part of this initiative. Together, they hope to encourage creativity while strengthening connections among professionals in architecture and interior design. Ultimately, the competition is not simply about who takes home an award, but also about how new ideas and connections can continue to grow beyond the competition itself.
Registration for DUMA® Karya Awards 2026 opened on July 10, 2026, and will remain open until November 24, 2026. Participants will then have until December 3, 2026, to prepare and submit their work.
Adding to the appeal, participation in the competition is completely free of charge. Nine finalists will be invited to attend the awards night, scheduled to take place on January 29, 2027, in Surabaya. The competition offers a total prize pool of IDR 215 million.
